28 Mar 03: Dow Jones Newswires Releases NewsPlus XML-Based News Service Following three months of tests, Dow Jones Newswires has introduced Dow Jones NewsPlus, a Web-format, XML-based version of Dow Jones News Service’s news, features and market information. Dow Jones NewsPlus will appear first on select platforms from Thomson Financial. Designed specifically for financial professionals, Dow Jones NewsPlus is a major enhancement to the Dow Jones News Service. Dow Jones NewsPlus provides subscribers with simple Web navigation techniques that eliminate the use of retrieval codes, enabling users to move easily beyond thousands of daily, scrolling headlines to a quick and comprehensive review of market-moving stories, market updates, analysis and commentary. Information on essential topics such as the war in Iraq, technical analysis, corporate disclosure and personal finance is also highlighted to make it easy to access and use. Subscribers to Dow Jones News Service on Thomson Financial platforms – either the new Thomson ONE desktop applications, or one of the 160,000 Thomson Workstations currently in use – will be the first market professionals with access to Dow Jones NewsPlus. The enhancement will be provided to Dow Jones News Service subscribers at no additional cost. Using an editorial system designed especially for Dow Jones NewsPlus, a team of Dow Jones Newswires editors selects and ranks the most important stories. Top headlines are displayed with summaries and links to the complete story and related information such as press releases, analyst ratings, industry news, fundamental company data and corporate profiles from Dow Jones Professional Investor Report. Featured content includes columns on topics from interviews with market strategists to global economic trends. A prominent section on the Dow Jones NewsPlus home page highlights Dow Jones Newswires’ proprietary analysis and commentary. Lou Eccleston, president, Banking and Brokerage, Thomson Financial, said Thomson ONE’s open application framework provides easy integration of data and applications to a single desktop connection. “When a stock symbol is entered, stories and headlines from Dow Jones News Service are simultaneously commingled with quotes, research, notes, and other content from Thomson, proprietary and third-party sources, providing quick and easy access to a full picture of the markets,” he said. Dow Jones Newswires is also working with other market data distributors to integrate the new XML feed into their platforms or to build a secure, direct link to Dow Jones NewsPlus. Versions of Dow Jones NewsPlus supporting other Dow Jones Newswires products are in various stages of development. |
