28 Aug 2002: Hemscott Uses DataPower for XML Distribution Hemscott PLC has deployed DataPower Technology’s DataPower XA35 XML Accelerator to provide real-time data to its customer base. Hemscott is a U.K.-based provider of financial information to institutional, retail and individual investors. Hemscott has selected each of its business lines to be powered by the XA35 XML Accelerator, a network device that processes XML into varied data formats at wire-speed to ensure that users receive dynamic information quickly and without fail. The XA35 leverages DataPower’s patent-pending XG3 technology. DataPower claims it is the world’s only XML-aware network device capable of intelligently and securely processing XML traffic at wire-speed. “We provide a high-end service to demanding clientele for whom speed is an absolute market requirement. The XA35 gives us that advantage," said Stephen Roche, CTO of Hemscott. "With the DataPower XA35 in place, files that once took 20 seconds to transform can now be processed in less than one second.” Hemscott operates Sun Solaris operating system software with an Oracle database of information detailing publicly traded companies in Europe. Hemscott recently migrated to XML to facilitate a constant stream of real-time, dynamic and customized information from this database to its customers. When Hemscott initially transitioned to XML, it incurred unfavorable XML processing performance using only a software-based platform. This performance degradation caused severe bottlenecks that prevented Hemscott from taking the application to real production. After careful evaluation, Hemscott selected and deployed DataPower's XA35 network device and realized a 2000% increase in performance and eliminated the need to overprovision multiple, high-cost servers. |
