22 Aug 2002: Barclays Tags Data with GXML

Barclays Global Investors is using its GXML XML language to tag new information sets for distribution on its Global Market Data (GMD) platform, which is currently being deployed by the bank.

GMD collects third-party and internal data for research and portfolio optimization. Integrated information sets include indices, corporate actions and fundamental data, as well as pricing and asset master data.

GXML is being used to tag these data sets before they are distributed more widely via Barclays’ so-called Common Platform, which delivers data globally via databases in the U.S., U.K. and Japan.

The Common Platform, which provides a common framework for global data management, is currently being rolled out in Tokyo. Canada and Australia will follow. The rollout of Common Platform and GMD are part of an 18-month long globalization and rationalization project.
