1 Aug 2002: Integral Publishes FinXML Details on Website

Integral has published programming details on its website for creating documents using FinXML 1.0. Integral hopes to make FinXML, a schema for describing financial instruments, compatible with other XML formats being used in the e-commerce area.

Integral is a U.S.-based software company that specializes in content management. The company is the sponsor of the FinXML initiative, which has not been very active to date, but through the company's latest efforts it appears that it is being revived.

The company last month posted programming details – a set of data definition tables – that prescribe rules for sharing data using FinXML. The company said it is planning to offer FinXNL compliance with such other schemas as Microsoft’s BizTalk and Ariba’s commerce XML (cXML).

FinXML is already compatible with the Financial Information Exchange (FIX), for communications between buy- and sell-side financial institutions, and the Open Financial Exchange protocol, for online billing and other retail transactions.

Sun Microsystems and J.P. Morgan Chase originally endorsed the concept of FinXML but have yet to join the group. Integral is seeking to attract vendors and users to the working group.
