15 May 2001: ACCPAC Releases XBRL Translator for Financial Reporting

ACCPAC International, a subsidiary of Computer Associates International Inc. has launched software that will enable translation of financial reports into the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) format, an emerging XML standard for financial accounting and reporting.

The so-called ACCPAC Advantage Series XBRL Financials, which is offered as a free software add-on, will enable customers to translate corporate financial reports from the ACCPAC general ledger format to the XBRL standard format.

XBRL aims to provide an XML-based standard for financial reporting information. The range of information that the organization covers includes regulatory filings, general ledger information and audit schedules. As well as ACCPAC, the organization’s members include Dow Jones, Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, Fidelity Investments, First Call, Innovision, Morgan Stanley, Multex and Reuters.

"The XBRL Consortium members are pleased that ACCPAC International has created an XBRL programming tool that companies can use in generating XBRL financial statements," says Mike Willis, chairman of the XBRL.org Steering Committee. "As more companies like ACCPAC release XML/XBRL related products, greater adoption in the marketplace is expected."

ACCPAC provides business management solutions for finance and accounting in small businesses to corporate enterprises. It offers systems and hardware consulting and support, project management, and training services.
